Trump to meet with China's Xi next Thursday, will hold a bilateral meeting
Karoline Leavitt, White House Press Secretary, described President Donald Trump’s upcoming Asia trip on Thursday. This includes a meeting between President Xi Jinping of China and President Donald Trump.
Trump will depart on his trip Friday night, and make stops in Malaysia and Japan.
Leavitt, speaking at the White House’s press briefing on Thursday, said that Trump and Xi will meet next Thursday, in Busan, South Korea, as part of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit.
The meeting came after Trump announced earlier in the month that he would impose new 100% tariffs for imports from China.
Leavitt stated that Trump’s Asai tour begins with a visit to Malaysia.
“The president will leave the White House tomorrow night at 11 pm to fly to Malaysia. He will arrive in the morning of Sunday local time. Leavitt told the White House’s press conference on Thursday that it was a long trip. “President Trump is scheduled to attend a bilateral lunch with Malaysia’s Prime Minister in the afternoon and the ASEAN leaders working dinner in the evening.”
Leavitt stated that Trump would fly to Tokyo on Monday morning, local time. He will then have a bilateral discussion with Sanae Takayichi, Japan’s new Prime Minister.
Leavitt stated that Trump would then fly to Buscan where he would participate in a bi-lateral meeting with Lee Jae Myung the President of South Korea.

Leavitt confirmed that Trump would attend the bilateral meeting between Xi and Trump before returning to Washington.
Both have met before — they held a bilateral on the sidelines the G20 Summer meeting in Osaka, Japan in 2019.
