Newsom Gives Trump’s Vanity Ballroom Brutal New Nickname
Gavin Newsom, the governor of California, has launched a new attack on President Donald Trump’s extravagant White House ballroom.
The president’s bulletproof ballroom, which is 90,000 square feet, is now anticipated to cost $300 million, but there is no set timeline for when it will be finished. Newsom, who has said he is seriously thinking about running for president, criticized the 79-year-old president for his priorities during the current government shutdown.
The governor wrote on X on Monday, “While Donald Trump builds his knock-off Versailles on White House grounds, his government shutdown is taking away federal food help from millions of Californians.”
He went on to say, “Trump and his lapdog Congress just don’t care.”
The Palace of Versailles has been the home of French kings since 1623. It became a symbol of royal extravagance before the revolution in 1789. With almost 15 million people a year, it is currently one of the most popular tourist spots in the world. Gold leaf is used to decorate the inside of the building, including sculptures, light fixtures, and gates. Trump has put gold leaf and frames all over the White House. He loves the French baroque style of architecture that can be seen at Versailles.
The government shutdown, which started on October 1, is now affecting the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which helps more than 40 million low-income Americans buy food. The Department of Agriculture confirmed on Monday that SNAP will not send out federal food subsidies on November 1 because the “well has run dry.”
Newsom criticized the president for going to Malaysia during the shutdown, where he was seen showing off his robotic dance moves on Sunday morning.
Newsom posted on X that “Donald Trump is literally dancing in Asia while 40 million people lose access to food.” He called it “disgusting.”
Newsom said on CBS News on Sunday that Trump was a “invasive species” for the country and the planet.
He also talked about how he tore down the East Wing to make room for his ballroom. “He’s a wrecking ball, not just the East Wing’s meaning and symbolism.” Newsom stated, “He’s destroying alliances, truth, trust, tradition, and institutions.”
On Monday, Newsom told CNN’s Elex Michaelson that Trump’s actions and power made him seriously think about running for president in 2028. He remarked, “I just think we’re on the other side of something very different, not just a little bit different.”
“Everything has changed for me, from my attitude and focus to my energy and how I see the world we live in. Trump and Trumpism, what he stands for, and how important and valuable this time is.
