1 person killed, 6 wounded in shooting at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania
Authorities said that during Lincoln University’s homecoming celebrations on Saturday night, gunfire broke out and one person was killed and six others were hurt.
Police stated during a news conference on Sunday evening that they think more than one person fired bullets as a crowd gathered outside the university’s International Cultural Center after a football game.
Authorities reported that Jujuan Jeffers, 25, of Wilmington, Delaware, was the person who died. He was shot in the head and died just after midnight.
Officials added that the six people who were hurt are likely to get better. They are between the ages of 20 and 25. One of them is a student at Lincoln University right now, and the other is a graduate. Officials say that the other people are not directly connected to the institution. On Sunday, the FBI and local police used dogs to scour the area for shell casings and other evidence. Investigators are also looking at films taken by persons who were there and are requesting anyone who has footage to send it to the FBI.

Zecqueous Morgan Thompson is one man who has been arrested and accused with having a gun without a permit. It hasn’t been established by investigators that his gun was used in the shooting. He is being jailed in Chester County Prison on a $25,000 cash bond.
Authorities don’t think it was a planned mass attack; instead, they say that the gunshots started unexpectedly in the middle of the homecoming activities.
Chris de Barrena-Sarobe, the Chester County District Attorney, said at an earlier news conference on Sunday morning that it was “a devastating night.” He said that when the gunshots started, “it was a chaotic scene and people fled in every direction.” Barrena-Sarobe stated, “We are looking into it with the full power of federal, state, and local law enforcement.”

Lincoln University is a historically Black university in the southeastern portion of Pennsylvania.
The institution confirmed on social media that courses would be canceled on Monday.
“It was a tragedy for our students, their families, and our community what happened last night,” the statement added. “We’re heartbroken that Lincoln University and its students are the latest victims of gun violence, which happens way too often in our country.”
Josh Shapiro, the governor of Pennsylvania, wrote on X on Sunday afternoon that his government has been in touch with campus administrators since the shooting. The governor stated he has given Lincoln University President Brenda Allen the “full support” of the state. He also said that the Pennsylvania State Police are ready to help Barrena-Sarobe’s office with the inquiry.
Shapiro added in the statement that the weekend “should have been spent celebrating the legacy of our nation’s first degree-granting HBCU,” not putting the pieces back together after a horrible shooting.
Shapiro said that he and his wife Lori “are praying for the six people who were hurt, the families who are worried sick, and the one person who won’t come home.” May their memories be a blessing.
