Satellite images show White House's East Wing has been demolished for Donald Trump's ballroom
This week, photographs and videos showed how much President Donald Trump’s plans to build a new ballroom will change the historic White House. Excavators were digging into the side of the building.

Now, satellite pictures provide us a different view of the work that has to be done.
A satellite picture taken on Thursday morning indicates that the whole East Wing of the White House has been torn down. There are piles of wreckage where the building used to be, which was the First Lady’s office.
An excavator can be seen moving the rubble to a place where a portico used to be. The colonnade that connected the Executive Residence to the East Wing has likewise been mostly taken down. Only the last part, which touches the Residence, is still there.
There is currently work going on nearby to build the ballroom that will take the place of the East Wing. A cement mixer is sitting in front of the Treasury Department, and a small section that could be part of the new building’s foundation has been dug out.

On Thursday, October 23, construction workers on the bottom right stand on top of the US Treasury building and watch as work continues to tear down the East Wing of the White House. President Donald Trump’s plan to create a ballroom on the east side of the White House includes the demolition.

Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, told reporters on Thursday that the project’s scope has grown over time. She told people to “trust the process” on the construction and claimed that the government was being open about it.

The president told me to come out here and share these plans and drawings with all of you as soon as they were done. Leavitt remarked from the White House briefing room, “I gave a whole speech about what this ballroom project was going to look like.” “Things change over time with any construction project as you figure out what the project is going to look like. We’ll keep you updated on all of those changes, but just trust the process.”
