2 shot dead at Tennessee plastics plant; gunman believed to be ex-employee
Authorities claimed that two workers at a plastics factory in Cleveland, Tennessee, were shot and killed on Monday morning.
Police announced in a statement that Tobias Gleinig and Ivan Aldergot were the two individuals who died at Barku Plastics. Cleveland Police Captain Evie West stated during a news conference on Monday night that both were supervisors at the facility and lived in Germany.
Cleveland police said in a statement, “Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the families, friends, and coworkers of Mr. Gleinig and Mr. Aldergot during this tragic time.”
The police claimed that officers who went to check out allegations of shooting just before 10:30 a.m. found the two deceased.
It added that a probable shooter was found and a car linked to him was followed to a house in Bradley County, which is outside the municipal limits of Cleveland.
Cleveland police reported that they and a SWAT team from the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office surrounded the house for “several hours” before sending in two robots and a drone to get a better look. They found the man dead.
Cleveland police said that the man shot himself and died. NBC station WCYB in nearby Bristol, Virginia, claimed that detectives think the gunman used to work at Barku, a company that makes injection-molded plastics.
The medical examiner in Bradley County, which is just below Cleveland, a population of around 50,000 people about 32 miles east of Chattanooga, will release the man’s name.
According to the Tennessee company’s website, Barku is a subsidiary of Barku Kunststofftechnik, a plastics maker that started in Germany in 1977. Barku’s executives in Tennessee and officials from the German Embassy in Washington did not react right away to a request for comment.
West added, “It is a very traumatic thing,” as he thought about how shocked and sad the violence made him.
