The NIA on Monday arrested another Kashmir-based associate of Omar Nabi, the suicide bomber behind the deadly car bomb attack outside Delhi’s Red Fort metro station on November 10. Associate Jasir Bilal Wani alias Danish is accused of providing technical support by modifying drones and attempting to make rockets.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a second person, Jasir Bilal Wani alias Danish, from Kashmir in connection with the deadly car bomb blast outside the Red Fort metro station in Delhi on November 10, which killed 13 people and injured 32. Investigators say Wani worked closely with suicide bomber Omar Nabi as the investigation spans multiple states.
Wani, a resident of Qazigund in Anantnag district, was detained from Srinagar. According to the NIA, he had allegedly provided technical support for terrorist attacks by modifying drones and attempting to make rockets before detonation.
An NIA spokesperson said, “He was an active co-conspirator behind the attack and had worked closely with terrorist Omar un Nabi to plan the massacre.”
The agency’s initial investigation revealed that Wani had been instructed by the Prophet to prepare for the fidayeen (suicide) attack. The two first met in a mosque in Kashmir, where the Prophet had allegedly radicalized Wani.
Earlier the arrest of someone close to the prophet
On Sunday, the NIA had also arrested another Kashmir-based associate of Nabi, Amir Rashid Ali. An NIA spokesperson said, “The arrested person has been identified as Amir Rashid Ali, in whose name the Hyundai i20 involved in the attack was registered. He was arrested from Delhi (where he was brought for questioning) by the NIA, which had conducted a massive search operation after taking over the case from Delhi Police.”
“Investigation has revealed that Ali, a resident of Sambura, Pampore, had conspired with alleged suicide bomber Omar Un Nabi to carry out the terror attack,” the spokesperson said.
“Aamir had come to Delhi to purchase the car, which was ultimately used as a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (IED) to carry out the blast. The NIA has forensically established the identity of the deceased driver of the vehicle-borne IED as Omar Nabi, a resident of Pulwama district and an assistant professor in the department of General Medicine at Al Falah University in Faridabad,” the spokesperson said.
Ongoing investigation and multi-state investigation
During the investigation, NIA also seized another car of Nabi. “The vehicle is being examined for evidence in the case. The NIA has so far examined 73 witnesses, including those injured in the November 10 blast,” the spokesperson said.
“Working in close coordination with Delhi Police, Jammu and Kashmir Police, Haryana Police, UP Police and various partner agencies, the NIA is continuing its investigation across the states. It is following up on multiple leads to unearth the larger conspiracy behind the bombings and identify others involved in the case,” the spokesperson said.
Wani was detained by Jammu and Kashmir Police three days ago. His father, a dry-fruit vendor, died tragically on Sunday by committing suicide by pouring kerosene oil on himself and setting himself on fire.
